The Week in Review - 1/18/11 - 1/21/11

Well, I didn't get most of the language things done.

We had Tower Tuesday on Tuesday, and it went well. For most of the students, anyway. REB came in and didn't do anything at all.

Thursday's presentation with Ric went smoothly. He had their attention - rapt attention - for 45 minutes, and all he did was talk! He had some objects to share with them, but he never got to them. Damon even had a freak-out, two actually, and he went right on without paying him any mind. It was great.

On Wednesday, RFB was in rare form. He wouldn't do a single thing I asked and was openly, and merrily, defiant. Simple requests such as, "Sit up, please," were met with a grin and a "just-try-to-make-me" nonchalance. It was pretty much the end of my rope. After school Kati and I decided we'd see if we could schedule a meeting with mom, RFB, and the two of us to come up with a plan. He was absent on Thursday, but they ended up coming in after school, and we came up with a pretty decent plan.

Speaking of absences, both REB and RFB were absent both Thursday and Friday. It was a rare bit of heaven having those two gone for two days. Sadly it was because they were both sick - and I'm never pleased that my students are sick - but it was a well-deserved break for Kati and me. I ended up speaking to REB's mom for 45 minutes after school on Friday. Epic conversation. Apparently Teresa has recently spoken with mom about younger brother who is in kinder and showing signs of being another REB in the making. Teresa basically told mom that she HAD to do something NOW, and mom *finally* took a look at her older daughter and saw her school problems for the first time. At the end of our conversation on Friday mom agreed to have BOTH of the children tested and is planning on taking them to a pediatrician.

It is about freaking time.

Our fruit explorations went well, and the students went home talking about the 'magic tablets' they took at school that made everything taste sweet and wonderful. I wonder how many parents think we're giving out LSD?

We're NOT, by the way.
