Stir Craaaaazy

Yeah, everyone is got a bit of the crazy these days.

In the last week we've had a bum toucher, a hitter and heap-big boy drama. Hoo boy!

With the bum toucher, I sat the class down and had a "Very Serious Talk (TM)" with them about touching and appropriateness and IT'S NEVER OK TO TOUCH SOMEONE'S BUM! The boy who has been touching bottoms obviously knew I was talking about him, and he didn't squirm or laugh or make jokes and draw attention to himself like he usually does on line. Then I talked to his mom, and she had a talk with him. Still. That was last week, and today he was touching bums again! This time it was a boy who is his friend - maybe he thinks that it's OK since they're friends and since he's a boy also? Who knows, but I talked to his mom again. Yeesh.

Then there was hitting. That was my little JS, and yes, she was egged on, but that's no excuse. Still, this was this first time she's hit anyone all year - and it's almost APRIL! That's major for her, since she's been a hitter ever since she arrived at Walden. Even so, I took her to Amy's office to get a hold of herself. I told her she wasn't in trouble with me, but that I was going to have to talk to her mom about it, and the next time she hits she'll be sent home for the day. Her mom took the news well, and apparently she was grounded for three days.

Then there was boy drama. Oh baby. My alpha male is seeking attention in the worst ways. He and RFB have been friends since the beginning of the year, but recently RFB has decided he's done with him and has been pretty adamant about them not being friends anymore. He's civil in class and isn't being a pill about it, but he is not being friends anymore. Kati and I were talking about it, and we've figured out that the aggressiveness and attention seeking behaviors have gotten worse since the two of them had their falling out. He seems to be almost desperate in his desire to gain and keep new friends, but his methods are toxic. He was absent today, and the mood in the classroom was entirely different. Everyone had a healthy and normal work cycle.

Case Study - See above. The hitting was yesterday, and today she was better. She was all dolled up (in a dress and ponytails!) for a party she was going to after school. She got a run in her tights early on in the day and wanted to call her mom. I told her there was nothing that could be done. Tights run, and there's nothing we can do to stop them once they start. She seemed to accept that.
